Terms of Use

These terms cover using Minstrel, starting a subscription, activating the app, and getting support.

Last updated: July 3, 2026

Using Minstrel

Minstrel gives you a personal, non-transferable license to install and use the app for your own writing projects, subject to these terms and any purchase terms shown at checkout or in the Mac App Store.

Direct-download access requires a verified account with an active trial, subscription, App Store entitlement, or other access granted by Minstrel. Activation records are install records, not seat counters, but Minstrel may apply reasonable safeguards to prevent abuse.

Purchases, activation, and refunds

New verified emails can receive one 90-day no-card trial for the direct-download app. Trial availability depends on account verification and may be limited to prevent abuse.

Paid direct-download access is handled as a monthly Stripe subscription. Stripe collects payment details and sends Minstrel the customer, subscription, and status information needed to activate, renew, restore, and support access.

Mac App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Apple controls App Store payment, cancellation, family sharing, taxes, and refund processes for those purchases. Minstrel may sync App Store entitlement information to your Minstrel account for activation and support.

Direct subscription refund requests are handled case by case. Email support with the subscription email and a short description of what happened. App Store refund requests must be handled through Apple.

Your writing and backups

You keep ownership of your manuscripts, notes, exports, and project files. Minstrel does not claim ownership of your writing.

You are responsible for keeping backups of your work. Minstrel is designed around local files, which means deleting or losing local files can also delete or lose the only copy you have.

Writing assistance requests

Some features can send prompts, selected project context, and related writing excerpts to the provider configured for that feature so the provider can return a response.

Do not send writing or other material through those features unless you are comfortable with the provider processing that material under its own terms and privacy policy.

Third-party services

Minstrel may use third-party services for payment, licensing, activation, email delivery, hosting, security, app distribution, support, and writing assistance features.

Those services may process information needed to provide their part of the service. The Privacy and Data Ownership page explains the main categories in more detail.

Acceptable use

Do not use Minstrel or its services to break the law, infringe someone else's rights, attack systems, bypass limits, interfere with the service, or share account access outside the permitted use.

Minstrel may suspend or disable service access, subscription recovery, or managed service features when needed to protect the service, prevent abuse, respond to disputes, or comply with law.

Updates and support

Minstrel may change, improve, remove, or add features over time. Some features may require a current app version, a working internet connection, an active trial, subscription, App Store entitlement, or a configured third-party provider.

Support is provided by email. Minstrel tries to help, but does not promise a specific response time, feature outcome, or compatibility with every system, provider, file, or workflow.

Disclaimers and limits

Minstrel is provided as is and as available. To the fullest extent allowed by law, Minstrel disclaims implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Minstrel is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost writing, business interruption, or service interruption.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

If part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Minstrel may update these terms by posting a newer version on this page.
