Build your chapter outline

Create a useful manuscript map with headings and chapter synopses.

Give every chapter a clear place

  1. 1Apply Heading 1 to each chapter title.
  2. 2Open Chapters to confirm the titles appear in the right order.
  3. 3Select a chapter and add or refine its synopsis.
  4. 4Use the outline to spot missing turns, crowded sections, and abrupt jumps.

Use synopses as promises

A short synopsis can state what changes in the chapter. During revision, compare that promise with the actual scene and decide whether the chapter earns its place.
