Review readability and chapter balance
Find dense passages, long sentences, and chapters with unusual weight.
Use readability as a map
Readability shows average sentence length, the longest sentence, long-sentence counts, and dense paragraphs. These measures point to passages worth rereading; they do not decide what good prose sounds like.
- 1Inspect the longest sentences for lost subjects, buried actions, or accidental repetition.
- 2Read dense paragraphs aloud before deciding whether to split them.
- 3Keep deliberate rhythm, complexity, and voice when they serve the scene.
Compare chapters in context
Chapter word counts make unusual lengths visible. A short chapter can sharpen urgency and a long chapter can deepen immersion; investigate the reason before changing either.
