Start with a story template

Choose a proven structure and turn its beats into your own story.

Choose the structure that fits the story

Templates give a new project a sequence of chapters or beats you can rename, rewrite, reorder, or remove. They are scaffolding, not rules.

  1. 1Open Templates from the library.
  2. 2Compare structures such as Three-Act Architecture, Hero’s Journey, Snowflake Expansion, Mystery Clue Ladder, or Romance Emotional Spine.
  3. 3Select a template to create the project.
  4. 4Replace the suggested beats with events from your story.

Make the template disappear into the draft

Rename generic beat labels as soon as their purpose becomes clear. Delete sections you do not need and add chapters wherever the story asks for more room.
